3 Things to Consider When Making Your New Years Resolution

BY AMY HARPER, LMFT

"Focusing on what having this would feel like, as well as areas in your life where you already feel like this will help you to attract more of it."

Ah, finally! It’s the last day of 2021. As we close the final chapter on this year, let us first reflect on everything that has happened within our lives and marriages. Next, remember the resolutions, goals and aspirations you had at the beginning of this year. Have you achieved them? If not, have you progressed towards them? Pondering upon this may help prepare in making your New Year’s resolutions for 2022.

Now that we have reflected on that, let’s dive into the 3 things we should consider as you make your 2022 New Year’s Resolutions…

1. What would you like to improve upon in your personal development?

Personal development is an ongoing and life-long process. There’s no finish line, and we are given a lifetime because it takes a lifetime to achieve enlightenment. There will always be areas that you can improve upon. So ask yourself, are you content with where you are now? Or do you feel that drive and hunger to dig deeper? After all your experiences this year, how would you like to show up in your life and marriage in 2022?

2. What would you like less of? Why?

Think about the things that are no longer serving you in your life. What would you like to edit, change or moderate. We often think about what we want more of as we create our goals for the upcoming year, but considering what you want less of can also be beneficial.

Think of this as a sort of Spring cleaning of the body, mind, spirit, and environment. Bringing each of these aspects of the Self into focus when considering what you’d like less of can aid in cleansing that which is no longer serving us.

3. What would you like more of? How would it feel to have that in your life? Where do you already feel like this?

Once you know what you want to improve on and what you want less in your life and marriage, consider what you would like more of. Focusing on what having this would feel like, as well as areas in your life where you already feel like this will help you to attract more of it. Once you engage in this process, you can set it free to find its way to you.

We have covered the 3 basic things to consider in creating effective and achievable New Year’s resolutions. I hope that you reflect on these and take what you have discovered within you into making the most out of your 2022. Thank you for all of your love and support in 2021. I wish you love, peace and prosperity in your life and marriage as we step into a brand new year.
