Our Needs and Voices

As women we often put our needs and desires on the back burner. This stems from the societal pressure placed on women from an early age. To be a woman, we are taught that we must be lady-like: meek, quiet, selfless, adorning, polite, and pretty. We are placed in this little box and are expected to uphold these qualities. As a result, eventually our voices become suppressed and we fail to learn how to communicate our needs in a healthy manner within our romantic relationships. 
 
We become people pleasers. We find it hard to say “no”. We go above and beyond for other people without even realizing how much it’s affecting us. It’s often not until we are exhausted and resentful that we’re even able to bring awareness to the negative impact of these tendencies being out of balance.  
 
Resentment often leads to feeling like a victim of your circumstance, however it really all comes back to not prioritizing your own needs and voicing your concerns. This is when we get to look at the beliefs that have been engrained and decide which ones we want to keep, modify, and toss out. We have to decide for ourselves whether these traits are truly serving us. Feminine traits aren’t bad but when they are unbalanced and do not serve our highest good, they become toxic. It’s time to collapse the box we’ve been in as we’re just simply too big for it– always have been, always will be. 
 
I invite you to take a step back and review the beliefs you carry regarding your roles. As you discover everything that is no longer serving you and make adjustments as needed, you can begin to experience what it truly means to be free and fulfilled in life and love.
